"It is...Our will that Catholics should abstain from certain appellations which have recently been brought into use to distinguish one group of Catholics from another. They are to be avoided not only as 'profane novelties of words,' out of harmony with both truth and justice, but also because they give rise to great trouble and confusion among Catholics. Such is the nature of Catholicism that it does not admit of more or less, but must be held as a whole or as a whole rejected: 'This is the Catholic faith, which unless a man believe faithfully and firmly; he cannot be saved' (Athanasian Creed). There is no need of adding any qualifying terms to the profession of Catholicism: it is quite enough for each one to proclaim 'Christian is my name and Catholic my surname,' only let him endeavour to be in reality what he calls himself." -- Pope Benedict XV, Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum 24 (1914)

Mags The Jazz Singer

KWTC Update

Remember the 'Mags The Barefoot Singer In A Catholic Church' scandal from 2013? She recorded a jazz video in a local Catholic church without permission of the pastor and with the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle. Well, it seems some people just don't know when to leave it alone.

Dave Wang (Facebook)
February 19 at 6:53am ·
This the Dave Domet, the blogger who attacked Mags for "foot porn". It seems that he is now being sued by the Vatican. I can't say I am sympathetic when he plays the poor victim here when he has done huge damage to Mags' music career

Dave Wang
Just to be clear. I am not enthused about the Vatican suing a blogger but just want to point out that this blogger has caused damage to others. Mags' fabulous story from Rome Reports was removed because of this individual. I think it is so ironic that he now plays the victim

Who's playing the victim?

Dave is Maggie Wang's father. He is commenting on Rev.Rosica, C.S.B.'s lawsuit threat against David Domet, the author of Vox Cantoris blog. 'My Piano' video was reported on this and Vox blog among others.

Besides his own Facebook page, Dave Wang also made uncharitable David Domet comments on Michael Voris' page who broke the lawsuit threat story.

Unfortunately, Dave Wang's comments got so out of line that Voris took them down. Dave claimed the My Piano expose reported on Vox Cantoris caused damage to Mag's career. Dave Wang alluded to the launch of his own lawsuit against David Domet in retaliation. There are a few problems with these accusations.

1. First, the Vatican isn't suing David Domet, a priest of the Basilian order is.

2. Second, what career? Mags is a student who's singing 'career' is more of a hobby at this point. A singing career doesn't have to beg for money from friends. Mags certainly has the potential for a successful singing career though.

Dave Wang (Facebook)
October 29, 2014 ·
Please help! We are barely at 13% for Mags' project and we are halfway through the campaign! If there is not enough interest, there will NOT be a DVD or a CD made for this project! We can't justify the extra cost if even our friends won't support the project.

3. If Rome Reports pulled a story about Mags that was their decision, not David Domet's. Perhaps their decision was based on the words and actions of Dave Wang? Perhaps they were upset about the My Piano video too?

4. By now, Dave Wang should be showing contrition, not furthering deceit. For his version of the story to be true the pastor and secretary of the church have to be lying. Somebody's definitely lying - breaking the Eighth Commandment.

5. Since it is obvious the Blessed Sacrament is in the Tabernacle, why did a practicing Catholic like Dave Wang allow the video production to continue? On Voris' Facebook page he claimed innocence and blamed the cameraman.

6. Dave Wang claims he had permission of Bishop Crosby for the video to be made inside a Catholic church even though it would break Canon Law. So that means he went to the bishop (not the pastor of the church whose job it is to know what's going on in his church), for permission and got it. It also assumes the bishop gave permission but neither he nor Dave Wang informed the pastor.

7. So after it's been proven the video My Piano violates Canon Law and deeply offends many faithful Catholics, it's still available for viewing and profiting on the Internet.

If Dave Wang or anyone else has information to the contrary please leave a comment or send an email and I will post it. Please be factual and refrain from logical fallacies, calumny, etc.

Dave Wang is also the frontman for the Christian Rock group (because some people think Christianity and Rock & Roll go together) named Critical Mass (get it...as in the Holy Sacrifice Of The Mass). Does Dave think this venture is a career too? Well, they did play the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival once.

Recently Mags has switched genres from Gospel to Jazz. This should come as no surprise since there's nothing religious about songs like My Piano. This switch should be a good thing for her as there's considerably more career prospects and success opportunities in the latter. From there it might not be a stretch to go into pop music where the real money can be found. Katy Perry went from Gospel to Pop and it's worked out well for her, for now at least.

It should go without saying to bear false witness is a mortal sin. Hopefully no one ends up burning for eternity over some trivial jazz video.

Was Rev.Rosica's Mentor A Mason?

Remembering Cardinal Martini
"Cardinal Martini was for me a mentor, teacher, model Scripture scholar and friend. He has influenced my life, teaching, pastoral ministry in a very significant way over the past 30 years. When many colleagues, students and friends have asked me these past years how I maintained my faith and hope in the world of scripture scholarship and teaching, I often told them: “I had three Martinis a day.” I think I have read everything that Cardinal Martini wrote, or that appeared under his name. I first met Cardinal Martini in Milan in 1981. He had already begun the Lectio Divina sessions with young people in Milan’s Duomo. I was amazed then and continued to be captivated by his method of preaching, teaching and praying the Scriptures.
When my Superiors assigned me to Scripture studies in Rome, and then Jerusalem, I began to appreciate Martini’s immense contribution to the biblical world. It was always a thrill when he would come to visit us at the Biblicum, celebrate mass with the students and then give an afternoon lecture in the Aula Magna. He walked in wearing a simple black cassock and small pectoral cross. With no notes in hand and only a Greek New Testament, he taught us one year how to lead Lectio Divina sessions with young people, and the next year he lectured us on the importance of Textual Criticism, one of the deadliest topics in Scripture Studies. From that point on he made the topic not only interesting but necessary.
We exchanged numerous letters over the years, and I remember asking Cardinal Martini for some advice as I prepared World Youth Day 2002 in Canada. Two moments, however, remain engraved in my memory and heart. Following the adventure of World Youth Day 2002, I asked permission to spend a month in the Holy Land to pray and rest. I wanted to spend some days at the Franciscan Retreat House on Mount Tabor. When I arrived, the lovely Italian sister greeted me and said: “You’ll be very happy to know that there is hardly anyone here these days. There is only one other guest. You will meet him this afternoon at tea.” After prayers, I walked into the dining room only to find Cardinal Martini sitting at the table. I blurted out: “Eminenza, how good it is to be here!” He said: “Should we not build three tents?” We had a good laugh and a wonderful visit.
A year later, as I presented the documentary of St. Gianna Beretta Molla on the eve of her canonization in Rome, the Cardinal thanked me for telling the true story of that great laywoman saint of his diocese. Martini loved St. Gianna Beretta Molla, calling her at her beatification ten years earlier: “Marvelous woman, lover of life, wife, mother, exemplary doctor, she offered her life so that she would not violate the mystery of the dignity of life.”
I sincerely hope and pray that the life and teaching of Cardinal Martini will penetrate deeply the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization in Rome. Martini clearly showed us how to evangelize. He lived out his episcopal ministry as a bishop of the Second Vatican Council, one who was honest, just, fair and unafraid. He constantly called forth goodness in other people. This great man was able to communicate not just with the faithful but also with people who were far from the faith, bringing the message of the Gospel to everyone. He taught us not to be afraid to dialogue and to reach out. He reminded us that under the smoldering ashes of a Church that is at times tired and discouraged, burdened with history and traditions, there are still embers waiting to be fanned into flame.
May this brilliant pastor and teacher continue to bless us and teach us from the heavenly Jerusalem."

Card. Martini, a member of the Italian Freemasonry?

Recently a document of Italian Freemasonry dated September 12, 2012 was brought to our attention. In it the Grande Oriente d'Italia Democratico (GOD - Italian Democratic Grand Orient) acknowledges that the ex-Archbishop of Milan, Card. Carlo Maria Martini, who died on August 31, 2012, was initiated as one of its members.

With this public recognition, the document goes one step further than the homage paid to Martini by the Grande Oriente de Italia - GOI - already reproduced here on this website. Judging by the fact that GOD and GOI are two different groups, it seems to be a split inside Italian Freemasonry. Both sides praise Martini.

It is noteworthy that the document also indirectly acknowledges that Fr. Pedro Arrupe, a past Superior General of the Society of Jesus, and a group of Jesuits influenced by him were Freemasons as well.

We do not believe that the emotional critique made against Benedict XVI exempts him from being a supporter of the Revolution as well. He has proved time and time again that he is an important agent to foster the Panreligion and One World Order, the two main ideals of Freemasonry.

A photocopy of the GOD webpage is found below. The photos are preceded by our translation of the Italian, in blue.

Now that the rhetorical celebrations and the vociferous condolences have ended and given way to silence and the metabolization of mourning, the Grand Orient Democratic affectionately greets Brother Carlo Maria Martini, who has passed away to the Eternal Orient.

Carlo Maria Martini died on Friday August 31, 2012.

Many have wept sincerely over his departure, many others have observed it exteriorly, but felt their hearts freed from a burden.

At the Angelus of Sunday, September 2, Pope Benedict XVI, Joseph Ratzinger in the world, remembered a man and an ecclesiastic figure whose thought and action represented a constant warning and a (sweet) accusation against the reactionary traditionalism that has shaped the Church of Christ for many centuries, with the luminous exception of hope (later betrayed) given to us by the Vatican Council II.

A Pope, who lives surrounded by his own hypocrisy and that of those who surround him (on many intricate matters), chose to clearly manifest his human, theological and pastoral distance from the ex-Archbishop of Milan, by blatantly not showing any affection on Martini's death during the Angelus of the first Sunday of September, only a few hours after that sorrowful event.

Indeed, although Martini had made acts of friendship and openness toward Ratzinger (even during the 2005 Conclave that elected him pope), except for some circumstantial phrases and gestures, one cannot say the same of the behavior of Ratzinger toward the Cardinal of Santa Cecilia.

In fact, on many questions Carlo Maria Martini constituted a challenge and a provocation to everything Benedict XVI represents and wants to maintain.

First, Ratzinger was, as Cardinal and Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (from 1981 to 2005), the severe guardian of a rude and sanctimonious orthodoxy (but blind and mute regarding cases of pedophilia all over the world). Afterward, as Pope, he was nothing more than a sickly and reactionary conservative, whose guidance of the Church of Rome will be sadly remembered, as will his choice of Secretary of State, His Eminence Tarcisio Bertone, a schemer like few others.

Carlo Maria Martini was ill for a long time, and the progressivist initiatives he wanted to introduce in the paralyzed body of the Church of Rome were left to wither for decades in the closed meeting of some illuminati prelates - bishops and cardinals. They never found the courage to emerge and form a tight front and openly contest the tremendous theological-doctrinal, pastoral and ethic delays that afflict the upper echelon of the administration of the Catholic Curia. Martini used to say the Church was 'at least 200 years behind' the times.

Martini's thinking was different from that of John Paul II and Benedict XVI on topics like women priests, hetero and homosexuality, the right to conduct scientific research and apply it to the latest in medicine, the rights of gay couples, the secularism of the public institutions, etc.

On all these matters Carlo Maria Martini had a progressivist vision judged in 'lay' terms, but actually a vision rooted in a traditional interpretation of Christianity as a religion of love, inclusion, tolerance, humility, a non-interference of [religious] arrogance in the civil and lay sphere, a critical doubt that must exist in the face of spiritual weakness, a faith that be a kind a deep knowledge of everything from first to last, and not a dogmatic and fanatical arrogance.

[Martini was] a man of vast culture - not just biblical - and uncommon intellectual refinement. Many years ago he used to go incognito to some dispossessed families, performing gratis, with humility and love, acts of service to those persons, as if he were a domestic worker.

Carlo Maria Martini was a Jesuit. And like other Jesuit priests who lived their youth and adulthood in the post World War II times and were influenced by the great progressisivist spiritual and moral figure of Pedro Arrupe (1907-1991, General Superior of the Society of Jesus from 1965 to 1983), Martini was curious about the Masonic wisdom.

Carlo Maria Martini wanted to be initiated as a Freemason.

On this fact - and the way in which it took place - one can find some illustrative points in the book by Brother Gioele Magaldi [on Masonry] titled Massoni - Società a responsibilità illimitata, Chiarelettere Editore, to be released in November 2012.

As far as we are concerned, with great simplicity and emotion, with immense affection and infinite esteem, we desire to salute Brother Carlo Maria Martini in his journey to the ETERNAL ORIENT.

Basilians Behaving Badly

So many questions...

1. Why would the Basilians' spokesman use such poor judgement and vulgar language to anyone, especially a Cardinal?

Rev. Timothy Scott, C.S.B. at the trial...

2. If indeed the Basilians have removed Rev.Scott as their spokesperson shouldn't the Vatican remove their Basilian spokesman too? After all, who hasn't dropped an 'F' bomb? Rev.Scott apologized and terminated his Twitter account. To my knowledge, Rev.Rosica has never apologized for any of his indiscretions (see below).

3. Why would the Basilians quote the King James Version of the Holy Bible for their moto?

4. Back to Twitter, why would the Basilians celebrate the secular "Valentine's Day" and not the feast of St. Valentine? Is it because that feast was removed from the Novus Ordo Calendar? It's still in the Usus Antiquior, in case you were wondering.

Also, why is Rev. Rosica, C.S.B. retweeting something from the National Catholic Reporter? Doesn't he know they are public dissidents who are defying their bishop's request to remove the word "Catholic" from their name?

5. On the Basilians' Facebook page, they celebrate or acknowledge Groundhog Day. Isn't Groundhog Day a form of divination? Check the Catechism, 2116.

6. Who is paying this law firm to sue a Catholic layman? Rev. Rosica took a vow of poverty, so he shouldn't have the financial resources himself.

7. Is Rev.Rosica, C.S.B. violating Canon Law with this secular lawsuit?

Canon 212 §3. According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, they have the right and even at times the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful, without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons.

8. As C.E.O. of the television broadcaster, Salt & Light, should Rev.Rosica insult fellow Catholics in this manner?

"Do some Catholics complain of their proverbial dirty linen being aired in public?

“Oh, yeah, all the time,” Rosica said. “There’s a certain form of Taliban Catholicism out there right now that would like to dictate everything and, really, it doesn’t speak to the future.

“We uphold the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and respectfully differ with those who do not share our views.”

For example, in the pro-life controversy that swirled around U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy’s funeral in 2009, Rosica said Salt + Light refused to allow the network to be “manipulated and hijacked by a radical fringe of people who asked that we join in and lead the condemnation of the cardinal of Boston for hosting Kennedy’s funeral in a Catholic Church.

“There are many people who claim to be Catholic and faithful to Christ and the Church,” Rosica said. “They know little of Christian behaviour.”"

9. Isn't it hypocritical to sue someone for expressing their opinion after you describe those who wish to dictate everything "Taliban Catholics"?

10. Isn't it hypocritical to accuse others of knowing little of Christian behaviour and then sue a fellow Christian? St. Paul told us not to sue one another (1 Corinthians 6).

11. As C.E.O. of the television broadcaster,Salt & Light, did Rev. Rosica approve of this message?

Salt and Light TV slams Cardinal Burke as being in an ‘Ivory Tower’

Lauding the Vatican’s Synod on the Family as “huge” change, a producer from Canada’s Catholic TV network Salt and Light, headed by CEO Fr. Thomas Rosica, has criticized outspoken champion of orthodoxy Cardinal Raymond Burke, suggesting that he is in an “ivory tower” and “sticking to the ideal” instead of ministering to people — such as homosexuals and the divorced — caught up in the “messiness of life.”
“There’s finally a realization that maybe the way we’ve been approaching things doesn’t help, or it’s not taking into account that that’s an ideal and real life is messy and we have to be able to deal with the mess, not the black and white,” said Alicia Ambrosio, producer and host of Vatican Connections on Salt and Light Television, to the host of TV Ontario’s The Agenda program last Friday evening, Oct. 17. (Click hereto watch the video)
In responding to questions about the highly criticized synod midterm report, Ambrosio gave no indication that it was deemed totally unacceptable to the majority of the synod bishops. In fact, she talked about it as though the document was still credible and its points worthy of consideration. The interview was video-recorded Friday at 3 p.m. and therefore Ambrosio had to be well aware of the furor over the midterm report which began Oct. 13.
Ambrosio said that while there will be no doctrinal change in the Church’s teaching regarding homosexuality and divorce, there already is what she called a “change in tone.”
“A change in — you know what — maybe we don’t have to tell people they’re wrong. Maybe we can work with them and find a way to welcome them into our community, even though they might not be perfect in our eyes. So, that’s going to be huge.”
When asked by the host to comment on Pope Francis, Ambrosio called him “realistic” because “he’s the only — not the only — but one of the few popes we’ve had in recent times who has actually worked in the trenches, so to speak.”
Ambrosio said it is cardinals like Burke who have set themselves against the “direction” the pope is trying to move the Church.
“It’s kind of like what you see in politics as well, with left and right. No matter what the other side says, this side is going to freak out. Cardinal Burke comes from a stream that doesn’t believe we should be even having this conversation. [His position can be summed as] ‘this is the truth, this is what should be happening, if you’re not meeting up to the truth, if you’re not living up to this ideal, you’re wrong. And there should be no conversation about how to bend to welcome people in, because then you’re bending on the truth.’”
“So, it’s a mindset. Discussions I’ve had with other journalists and other Catholics – we’re really wondering what’s going to happen to Cardinal Burke and others of his ilk after the Synod, because if this conversation goes down a road that they can’t accept, then what?” she said.
Ambrosio criticized Burke for being “unrealistic.”
“It’s really living with the belief that, ‘this is what we teach, this is the truth. Stick with it, otherwise you’re out. And we shouldn’t be discussing what that truth is because then we’re changing what we are completely.’”
“Just like I could say that Pope Francis is realistic as opposed to progressive, I think statements like Cardinal Burke’s are coming from a place of more of being in an ivory tower, you know, living with the ideal,” she said.
The phrase “ivory tower” is typically used pejoratively to indicate intellectuals caught up in rather useless lofty pursuits that makes them disconnected from the practical concerns of everyday life.
Ambrosio also disparaged the previous papacies of Benedict XVI and Saint John Paul II, suggesting that they were out of touch with the faithful.
“The lay people finally feel like their voice is being heard. Their lives are being reflected in what this pope is saying. And that’s huge. So, we’re getting that change from the top down, and from the bottom up. Because now, to be credible to the lay people — to be credible to the faithful — it’s not just about being really holy, and being really prayerful, and giving a good sermon, it’s about walking the walk.”
When asked about what the Synod means for homosexuals being accepted as homosexuals in Catholic parishes, Ambrosio replied:  “It means that on the ground level, in the parish, it’s suddenly not going to be acceptable to other faithful, it’s not going to be acceptable to exclude someone who has a sincere thirst for God and who has a sincere desire to practice their faith, but is either in a same-sex relationship or is divorced and remarried. It’s not going to be acceptable to exclude that person anymore. And that’s huge.”
Ambrosio agreed with the host near the end of the show that “acceptance” was the first step towards full inclusion of homosexuality within the Catholic Church, but immediately backpedalled, saying that while Church teaching cannot change on divorce or homosexuality, nevertheless, “we are going to see the parish doors open and these people will find a place to live their faith."
LifeSiteNews asked Ambrosio if it should be sinners who need to change — rather than the Church changing her tone — so that they can live according to God's ideals as revealed through the Church, but did not receive a response by press time.

How To Pull Your Kids From Wynne's Indoctrination

Video thumbnail for NP Explainer: Revised Sex Ed Curriculum

TORONTO — As Ontario finally revealed on Monday an update to a sex-education curriculum that’s stagnated since 1998, parents were told they could pull their children out of some but not all of the lessons.

Robyn Urback: No, the ‘gay-activist’ premier is not trying to corrupt your children

On Monday, the Ontario government released the details of its new sex ed curriculum, catapulting the province’s fretful moralists into the soft velour of their fainting chaises. “MpffffSEXphhhKIDS,” they wail into crimson pillows, with the curriculum ripped in tatters and spewed across the bearskin rug. “[Unintelligible] ANAL IN KINDERGARDEN [unintelligible] WHY, KATHLEEN?”

Organizations have mobilized. The Campaign Life Coalition, which previously identified Kathleen Wynne as a “gay-activist” turned Premier — one who wants to get tweens “thinking about anal intercourse” — has launched a rally at Queen’s Park for Tuesday to protest the new curriculum. The Institute for Canadian Values was ahead of the game, releasing a statement last month abhorring Wynne’s supposed plan to “start teaching grade one children how to give sexual consent.” The REAL Women of Canada also got out early with a release, and they were aghast at a program that “conveys the message that promiscuous sex is expected of children.”

What’s next, Ms. Premier? Hmm? Drinking? Instructions on how to roll marijuana cigarettes?

“It’s actually in the Education Act that a parent has the right to withdraw their child from content they don’t want their child to receive,” Education Minister Liz Sandals said in an interview.

That could be anything from a novel in English class (some people object to Harry Potter books because they glorify witchcraft) to evolution.

The revamped sex-ed curriculum includes lessons about technology and sexuality — such as the dangers of sexting or sending nude photos online — and begins with discussions about healthy relationships and anatomy as early as Grade 1.

For some parents, discussions of anal sex or contraception in Grade 7 might raise eyebrows, but Ms. Sandals said the material relating to sex is only about 10% of the lengthy document. It also includes health lessons about nutrition and why physical activity is important. Those are efforts to combat childhood obesity, just as the sex-ed lessons seek to address sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates that have climbed among teens while the number of unplanned pregnancies has fallen.

That trend shows the old curriculum did a good job teaching about contraception, but may have not done enough to explain there’s more than one way to get an STI. That’s why the new guidelines include more discussion about safe oral and anal sex, the Education Minister said. The new lessons will be introduced starting in September.

Former premier Dalton McGuinty pulled back on similar changes in 2010 in response to a vocal minority opposed to the evidence-based reforms. Demonstrations are planned for the provincial legislature on Tuesday, both for and against the new curricula.

Parents have the right to pull their children from sex-ed classes, but it’s a “real rarity,” said Bob Schreader, vice-president of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association. That group and the Institute for Catholic Education supported the curriculum throughout its development.

“As a Catholic community, we’re going to ensure our children get that information, but we are going to do it through a Catholic lens,” Mr. Schreader said. He said parents’ concerns can often be allayed by talking to teachers instead of pulling their children from classes.

Kevin Van Paassen for National PostOntario Education Minister Liz Sandals unveils the province's revised Health and Physical Education curriculum at a press conference at Queen's Park in Toronto, Monday, Feb. 23, 2015.

There is no province-wide process to follow if parents want to opt out. Each school board deals with such matters differently, usually under equity policies for religious or conscientious accommodation.

Some schools still send out letters or permission forms before sex ed begins, but not all. Michael Barrett, president of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association, advises parents to talk to their children’s teachers if they are concerned about the material.

Ms. Sandals also noted that schools are not required to provide alternative assignments or tests if children are pulled from class, so it’s important to understand if material will be covered in other ways or not.

And some aspects of the new health curriculum can’t be avoided — explaining why it’s OK that some families are different, and not teasing other students because they have “two mommies” or two fathers, for instance.

This portion of the curriculum was enshrined in Ontario law under an anti-bullying bill in 2012, as well as under provincial human-rights legislation.

“The human-rights pieces [of curriculum], you’re not going to be able to exempt your [child] from those,” Mr. Barrett said.

All three parties at Queen’s Park have lauded the update as necessary. Even the Progressive Conservatives, who lambasted the 2010 version, have said the new curriculum was required. However, Conservative MPPs have also said they will listen to constituents as the new lesson plans roll out and raise any issues in the house.

A case that could be considered this year by an Ontario court could test how much right a parent has to know what’s discussed in classrooms.

In 2012, Steve Tourloukis, a Hamilton, Ont. dentist, brought an application against the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board for refusing to give him advance warning when certain topics that contravene his Orthodox Christian faith were to be raised in class. His lawyer said Monday the hope is that case will be heard in court this year.

When the lawsuit was filed, then education minister Laurel Broten defended the school board’s decision, saying it was not possible to predict when a teacher might discuss same-sex marriage or other issues on Mr. Tourloukis’s list.

Rev.Rosica & Heresy Of Indifferentism

Click for video

13. Now We consider another abundant source of the evils with which the Church is afflicted at present: indifferentism. This perverse opinion is spread on all sides by the fraud of the wicked who claim that it is possible to obtain the eternal salvation of the soul by the profession of any kind of religion, as long as morality is maintained. Surely, in so clear a matter, you will drive this deadly error far from the people committed to your care. With the admonition of the apostle that “there is one God, one faith, one baptism”[16] may those fear who contrive the notion that the safe harbor of salvation is open to persons of any religion whatever. They should consider the testimony of Christ Himself that “those who are not with Christ are against Him,”[17] and that they disperse unhappily who do not gather with Him. Therefore “without a doubt, they will perish forever, unless they hold the Catholic faith whole and inviolate.”[18] Let them hear Jerome who, while the Church was torn into three parts by schism, tells us that whenever someone tried to persuade him to join his group he always exclaimed: “He who is for the See of Peter is for me.”[19] A schismatic flatters himself falsely if he asserts that he, too, has been washed in the waters of regeneration. Indeed Augustine would reply to such a man: “The branch has the same form when it has been cut off from the vine; but of what profit for it is the form, if it does not live from the root?”[20]
14. This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. “But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error,” as Augustine was wont to say.[21] When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly “the bottomless pit”[22] is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws — in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty.

Pro-Lifers Work For Satan, According to Rev. Rosica

LifeSiteNews

Editorial: Salt and Light’s Fr. Rosica says LifeSiteNews is Doing “the work of Satan”

September 14, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In the most scathing attack ever publicly directed at LifeSiteNews.com by a prominent clergyman, Fr. Thomas Rosica, President and CEO of Salt and Light Television, went so far as to accuse LifeSiteNews.com of doing the "work of Satan" in an interview on Sirius Satellite Radio's The Catholic Channel.
In the September 9 interview, Fr. Rosica told "Across The Nation" host Bob Dunning: "We have an agency in Canada functioning called LifeSite.  It purports itself to be a news service for the areas and issues of life.  I will say very publicly to those listening - it is not credible, it does not speak for the Church, it is not ethical, it is not honest."
Rosica, who spoke of the need for "civility, charity, kindness and humanity" in the pro-life movement, at the same time said of LSN: "I encourage people to know that this is not an authentic instrument at the service of unity and at the service of the Church.  It is causing division."
He continued: "For the one-tenth of kernel of truth that they purport to uncover (and there is truth in what they do) nine-tenths is exaggeration.  It is bombastic, it is derisive and it is divisive."
He concluded the assault on LSN saying: "I think we have to be very clear and say that part of the work of Satan is to divide - to pit people against each other and they are succeeding quite well."
The Salt and Light CEO was reacting to LifeSiteNews' coverage of a post on his blog, in which Fr. Rosica expressed similar anger and frustration against North American pro-life leadership generally and by unmistakable implication, EWTN News Director Raymond Arroyo.
Writing on his blog in the aftermath of the Kennedy funeral and in reaction to the pro-life and Catholic leaders who criticized the grandiose funeral given to Kennedy, Rosica wrote that "Civility, charity, mercy and politeness seem to have dropped out of the pro-life lexicon."
Ironically, however, the language used by Rosica was less civil than anything issued from the pro-life leadership. The harshness of his denunciation is especially shocking given his prominence as the chief organizer for World Youth Day in Toronto, his role as a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and an advisor to the Canadian Bishops Conference.
"Many so-called lovers of life and activists in the pro-life movement, as well as well-known colleagues in Catholic television broadcasting and media in North America, have revealed themselves to be not agents of life, but of division, destruction, hatred, vitriol, judgment and violence," he wrote.
In his blog post, Rosica did not mention Arroyo by name, but referred to "well-known colleagues in Catholic television broadcasting" in North America who had publicly criticized the Kennedy funeral. There was no doubt that he was referring to Arroyo, who had written a prominent article strongly criticizing the Kennedy funeral, and thus LSN reported it plainly as fact. However, Rosica protested LifeSiteNews' coverage, complaining to Dunning "they pitted our television network against Raymond Arroyo on EWTN.  Now, I never mentioned Raymond Arroyo in my text and nor did I mention EWTN."
Later in the interview, however, Rosica indicated that Arroyo was indeed one of the people that his blog post was aimed at. "For them to say that I aimed everything at Raymond Arroyo - there were about 20 different people," he said. "Raymond Arroyo was the most public that they cited, which I didn't mention in my article, but we all saw Raymond Arroyo's blog."

While the LSN headline highlighted Rosica's slam at Arroyo, the article also noted Rosica's wider concern, observing that "Rosica took a swing at pro-life activists generally, and his US counterpart specifically for daring to criticize Cardinal O'Malley's decision to participate in and allow the Kennedy funeral extravaganza."
Rosica told Dunning that among the 20 or so individuals he was aiming his blog post at, there were some "priests especially who claim to be pro-life, causing more division in the Church."  Some of the most prominent priests criticizing the Kennedy funeral were Human Life International President Fr. Tom Euteneuer, and Fr. Brian Harrison of the Oblates of Wisdom, who wondered what the funeral would have been had Kennedy been an anti-Semite rather than an active supporter of the legal killing of unborn children.
It is curious, however, that Rosica reserved his harshest words for LSN. After all, even within our original coverage of Rosica's criticisms of North American pro-life leaders, we specifically reminded our readers about the need for civility. "LifeSiteNews has often advised that angry communications are unhelpful and are usually very harmful," we wrote, at which point we linked to LSN's guidelines for composing effective communications
The lasting impression left by Fr. Rosica's comments - both about pro-life critics of the Kennedy funeral and about LSN specifically - is a sense of irony. It may very well be that some of those who criticized the Kennedy funeral lacked charity (anyone who expressed a desire for Kennedy's damnation, for example), but the solution to the problem can hardly be to launch a series of invective-filled attacks against North America's pro-life leaders (all of whom expressly stated that they are praying for Kennedy's soul and hope for his salvation).
Blaming these pro-life leaders for the invective he may have received from some abortion opponents is patently unfair.  It is tantamount to blaming all priests for the sexual abuse scandals.
However grievous Rosica's disagreements with Raymond Arroyo, Fr. Euteneuer, Fr. Harrison, and LSN and the rest, or however profound his concerns about a lack of unity and civility, so publicly accusing these devoted and supremely peaceful pro-life and religious leaders and activists of being agents of "division, destruction, hatred, vitriol, judgment and violence" cannot possibly be the solution.

VATICAN SPOKESMAN THREATENS TO SUE CATHOLIC BLOGGER

Father Thomas Rosica, a Vatican spokesman who works in the media, has sent a menacing legal letter to a little-known Canadianblogger, threatening a lawsuit for allegedly criticizing him unfairly.

Father Rosica serves as assistant in the Holy See Press Office in charge of speaking to the English language press. A Canadian himself, Rosica is also founder of the Canadian Catholic cable network called Salt & Light. Though Rosica publicly defends the right tofreedom of speech and press, he is attempting to silence the blogger who has criticized him.
On February 17, Rosica’s lawyers sent a letter to David Domet, who blogs at a site called Vox Cantoris, demanding that Domet take down certain blog posts they say malign Rosica’s character. The letter says:
Each of the said statements, separately and collectively, expressly and by way of innuendo, are false and defamatory in that they suggest that Fr. Rosica is dishonest; they suggest that Fr. Rosica is untrustworthy; they suggest that Fr. Rosica is willing to act unethically to further his own agenda and to do so at the expense of others.
At issue are a number of posts criticizing Rosica for his role in the unusually contentious Extraordinary Synod on the Family at the Vatican last October, which drew global attention to the debate within the Catholic hierarchy over communion for the divorced and civilly remarried and the Church’s approach to homosexual unions. Some feared, and others hoped, that the Church was set to change traditional doctrine. The blog Vox Cantoris claimed that Father Rosica, who was one of the official spokesmen of the Synod, was central to efforts to change at least Church practice, if not Church teaching.
Rosica’s letter pointed to nine specific posts, among them:
Make no mistake friends, Tom Rosica and the rest of them are not going to go quietly in the night. They are going to work insidiously over the next year so that there (sic) heterodox view of Catholicism is enacted, not in doctrine, but in praxis. For Father Rosica, it is but a continuing journey.
In a stunning rebuke of President of the Internet Father Thomas Rosica’s pronouncement that the Holy Family was “irregular” in order to justify the homoheresy of the Synod on the Family; Pope Francis today at his audience contradicted the earlier reports by the Vatican English-language spokesman and Executive Director of Canada’s Pepper and Darkness Catholic Channel of No Hope and has pronounced the Holy Family was indeed, “regular.”
American audiences might find the posts inflammatory and perhaps uncharitable, but not legally actionable. In the United States, bloggers may say practically anything they want about a public figure. But this case is being brought in Canada, where Father Rosica is a priest, against a Canadian blogger.
A similar suit was brought by a Canadian priest against the Canadian news and opinion website LifeSiteNews. The priest accused LifeSiteNews of defaming him when they suggested he did not comply with Catholic teaching on abortion. The suit dragged on for several years and ended up costing LifeSiteNews more than $250,000. The suit only ended when the priest died unexpectedly.
Father Rosica is no stranger to intramural Catholic hostilities. He has criticized LifeSiteNews and other conservative Catholic outlets for what he considers their uncivil approach to public discourse. This came to a head when Cardinal O’Malley of Boston allowed, and even participated in, a public Mass of burial for Senator Edward Kennedy, who had been perhaps the most visible Catholic abortion supporter in the United States.
In their letter, Father Rosica’s lawyers say that Rosica “is incurring and has incurred damages as a result of the aforementioned false and defamatory statements. These damages include damages to his reputation, work and service to the church.” They charge that the blog posts have also caused Rosica’s television network to lose subscribers.
Rosica’s lawyers are demanding that the blogger “immediately and publicly retract all statements on the blog regarding Fr. Rosica and apologize to him on the blog.” If the demands are not met by February 22, “we will seek instructions to commence an action against you,” they state. They have given him five days to comply, but even if he does, the lawyers say they may still sue.
It is not clear at this point what the proprietor of Vox Cantoris will do. He identifies himself as a Catholic family man without the means to defend himself against such charges.
