TORONTO, September 12, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A rally to advocate for the de-funding of abortion in Ontario will take place on Saturday, October 22nd, 2011, from 1 to 4 pm., at Queens Park.
“Did you know that Ontario taxpayers pay a minimum of $30 million annually to cover the cost of abortions in their province?” Campaign Life Coalition Youth Coordinator Alissa Golob, who is behind the organizing of the event, said.

“That’s right. You are paying for abortion in Canada. Assuming that you pay your taxes, you can be sure that your hard earned dollars and dimes are being put towards the destruction of human beings.”

Golob said the rally will be an opportunity to tell the newly elected provincial government to stop using hard-earned tax dollars to fund the killing of innocent preborn children. She pointed out that for the $30 million that the province spends on abortion, it could hire over 200 family doctors, or 400 nurses, or buy 20 MRI machines, “all of which would provide better health care.”

The CLC youth coordinator pointed out that there have been over three million unborn children killed by abortion in Canada. “In Ontario alone, there are nearly 1.5 million citizens who have gone missing since 1970, and the trend continues with our province having the highest abortion rate in Canada.”

“Campaign Life Coalition Youth holds the position that government-funded abortions are a blatant abuse of tax dollars, are severely unjust, and that these funds can and MUST be directed away from the killing of our preborn children,” Alissa told LifeSiteNews.

In January 1988, in a case brought forward by abortionist Henry Mogentaler, the Supreme Court of Canada struck down Section 251 of the Criminal Code, which effectively removed all restrictions on abortion through all nine months of pregnancy up until the moment of birth.

Thus there is no law in Canada governing abortion whatsoever. However, there is no “right” to abortion either.

In the Morgentaler ruling, the court did not declare abortion a constitutional right.

According to “A History of Abortion In Canada,” only one of the seven Supreme Court Justices who heard the case, Madam Justice Bertha Wilson, wrote in support of a woman’s “right” to abortion, and then only in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Dissenting Justices McIntyre and La Forest JJ. wrote in their opinion, “Save for the provisions of the Criminal Code permitting abortion where the life or health of the woman is at risk, no right of abortion can be found in Canadian law, custom or tradition and the Charter, including s.7, does not create such a right.”

“This is an issue that should be held close to the hearts of young people in particular,” Golob said.

“We did not have a choice to stand-up against the Morgentaler decision, but we have a choice now. Let’s use it. We are the survivors and it’s our job to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. JOIN US!”
