"It is...Our will that Catholics should abstain from certain appellations which have recently been brought into use to distinguish one group of Catholics from another. They are to be avoided not only as 'profane novelties of words,' out of harmony with both truth and justice, but also because they give rise to great trouble and confusion among Catholics. Such is the nature of Catholicism that it does not admit of more or less, but must be held as a whole or as a whole rejected: 'This is the Catholic faith, which unless a man believe faithfully and firmly; he cannot be saved' (Athanasian Creed). There is no need of adding any qualifying terms to the profession of Catholicism: it is quite enough for each one to proclaim 'Christian is my name and Catholic my surname,' only let him endeavour to be in reality what he calls himself." -- Pope Benedict XV, Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum 24 (1914)

Those Who Compromise Will Eventually Apostatize

Homily by Pastor, Fr. Paul Gousee

Those Who Compromise Will Eventually Apostatize

--------------------------

"The announcement that Christ has made in the gospel today is that His hour had come, the hour which set His passion and suffering in motion.

Now the hour has come to the Church, the hour of its passion and suffering. All the proponents of same-sex marriage, homosexuality and anti-religious freedom groups desire to crucify the Body of Christ. They would like its voice silenced because it speaks freely against all that violates the Body of Christ.

Indeed, this scripture tells us that a division occurred in the crowd because of Jesus, and that each went to his own house. So too a division is occurring now because of the Church and her voice. And each will go to his own house.

And now for the division

First – They bring people to compromise and counterfeit religion. They make a pretense of it, but deny its power. Many are led away, but the Church continues to proclaim the Gospel of Light and Truth.

Secondly - They attack the Church’s weakness, exposing sinful hierarchy. Yes, indeed they pointed out sin, which is a great shame. Yet they have done us the favor of exposing our hypocrisy, to make us a stronger Church.

Third – They attack the Church’s moral authority. They use science and manipulate facts to question eternal truths.
  • yet the fact remains that the entire fabric of human person is present from the time of conception
  • yet the only cure and prevention of STD’s and AIDS is abstinence
  • yet the best chance for a child is to know and have a relationship with his mother and father;
  • yet the pill promised liberated sex lives, but has only created a host of social problems which have made our culture a basilica of utilitarianism. It promised to minimize divorce. It promised to make abortion an exception. It promised to end teen pregnancy. All it has really succeeded in doing is giving us a license to use each other as object and discard those whom we see as inconvenient.
Fourth – They have desensitized us to violence and sexual exploitation. Television promotes a reality that we are told has no negative effect on our culture. And those who admit that it does are not willing to sacrifice profit to see such programming removed. So police are killed in our neighborhoods, children are shot in our schools, and bullying among young people is epidemic.

Pornography is pandemic in youngsters to people of old age. But it’s said to be no big deal. Yet it is a sickness that is destroying marriages. And when unmasked, it is nothing more than a self-serving addiction which exploits women and children.

We are told in Hebrews, Chapter 5 that Jesus became the source of salvation for all who obey Him. Jesus is the grain of wheat who fell to the ground and died. And we need to let the grain of wheat that is our secular lives die … now … that we might share His immortality … now.

He calls us to be His children. And He desires to call us His children and forgive the evil we knowingly and unknowingly have allowed into our lives.
… It was for this purpose that I came – to glorify the name of the Father.

Yes, the hour has come. It came for Christ, and now it has come for His Church. Christ did not compromise. The Church cannot compromise, for the body must follow its head. All those who love their lives will lose them. But, choose to follow Christ and His Church, and they will preserve them for eternal life.

Yes, the hour has indeed come. Now is the time for judgment upon this world, for the Church to be glorified in the same way that the Father glorified the Son. The Father will honor whoever follows and serves Christ and His Church.

Make no mistake.

There will be no compromise. The Church is not going to compromise. It cannot compromise. Christ did not compromise. And so the Church must follow its Head.

And anyone who thinks they can compromise and survive is wrong, because those who compromise will eventually apostatize. Because at some point they will roll over, and they will cave in.

There is only one way to salvation, and it is Jesus Christ. And His Church has reached its hour, just as He reached His. But the Father glorified Him and poured out many, many, many graces upon the Church.

And so as the Church is glorified, once again it will be a time of great grace."
