"It is...Our will that Catholics should abstain from certain appellations which have recently been brought into use to distinguish one group of Catholics from another. They are to be avoided not only as 'profane novelties of words,' out of harmony with both truth and justice, but also because they give rise to great trouble and confusion among Catholics. Such is the nature of Catholicism that it does not admit of more or less, but must be held as a whole or as a whole rejected: 'This is the Catholic faith, which unless a man believe faithfully and firmly; he cannot be saved' (Athanasian Creed). There is no need of adding any qualifying terms to the profession of Catholicism: it is quite enough for each one to proclaim 'Christian is my name and Catholic my surname,' only let him endeavour to be in reality what he calls himself." -- Pope Benedict XV, Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum 24 (1914)

Catholics Using the Enneagram

Who is Bishop Remi DeRoo? see Lifesite Article at http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2004/oct/041008a.html. A quote from the article:

"Bishop De Roo is the hard-left churchman who retired from his post as bishop of Victoria in disgrace after leaving the diocese in deep financial trouble losing millions in ‘investments’ of diocesan funds into a friend’s Arabian horses. He will be speaking on 'Biblical Characters and the Enneagram' during November, just after the completion of 'Introduction to the very Enneagram.' De Roo is heavily involved in promotion of the new age Enneagram, speaks on it regularly and includes prominent links to Enneagram resources on his website.

"Despite its vast popularity in certain sectors, a recent Vatican document on the new age noted the enneagram is a form of Gnosticism, a formally declared heresy, which says Pope John Paul II is in 'distinct, if not declared, conflict with all that is essentially Christian.'"

(Note: this article, written in 2004, gave the following Vancouver Archdiocesan link to "the diocesan record on Bishop De Roo": http://bcc.rcav.org/00-07-10/fp.htm. The record has been removed).

Three eyewitnesses state that they were present at a summer 2006 graduation mass at St. Mark's College Vancouver where Enneagram teacher, Horse and Land speculator, and former Victoria Bishop Remi DeRoo sat vested with Archbishop Roussin and Vicar General Msgr. Mark Hagemoen by the Altar.

Bishop DeRoo has long been involved in activities that cause concern to the Vatican. For example:

"Bishop Emeritus of Victoria, BC Remi DeRoo canceled plans to be a major speaker at the upcoming Worldwide Congress sponsored by the International Federation of Married Catholic Priests. The letter to DeRoo from the Vatican charge d'affaires in Canada on behalf of the Congregation for Bishops suggests that DeRoo's appearance at the conference would be a "great source of possible scandal and confusion." The concern seems to arise because several other organizations, which the charge d'affaires says "are in open dissent to the teaching and discipline of the Catholic Church," are participating in the Congress with various meetings and activities. One of the partner groups is Catholic Organizations For Renewal (COR), of which DignityUSA is an active member."

The Enneagram - Discerning Essence, Deepening Presence
With foundations in both psychology and spirituality, the Enneagram is a profound framework for discerning our Divine Essence, the truth of who we are, while inviting clarity about our personal stumbling blocks to soul-filled expression.  The workshop is an introduction to the unity and diversity of human experience manifesting through 9 primary energies (usually referred to as types), the ways those essential qualities become distorted, the history of the Enneagram and deeper dimensions of the symbol itself.  Rather than approaching this system through noticing what is wrong with us (as it has sometimes been presented), this will be an invitation to Presence where "what we are up to" illuminates what lives at our centre.  Experiential means, such as movement and meditation, will help integrate the teachings wholistically. Both those new to the Enneagram and those to whom it is familiar will find wisdom for transformation.
7-9pm Friday, November 2 and 9:30-5:00pm Saturday, November 3
Live-in: $159.                               Commuter: $115.
If living in please come by 6:45pm to check in.                           Please register by Oct. 25.
Facilitator Sherry Dahl is a well-trained and experienced spiritual director and facilitator with a Master of Arts in Spirituality.  She has studied extensively with Don Riso and Russ Hudson, acknowledged leaders in developing the Enneagram as a tool for transformation through the Enneagram Institute.

Are You Ready to Conspire for Change?
Conspire: from Latin conspirare, 'to breathe together’

Fr. Richard will share insights on the rich and varied sources of spiritual wisdom that have had the deepest influence on his teaching and writing over his lifetime. Fr. Richard will help us understand the Perennial Tradition, which challenges us to look beyond systems, sects, gender and dogma, into a place of universal truth that invites us all to re-awaken to our union with God. It is from that awareness that we can serve as co-creators of the world, breathing together so “That all may be one.” (John 17:20)

The Wisdom of the Enneagram: The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types

------------------------------------------------------------------

15th October 2011
Helen Costigane SHCJ

The Enneagram is a powerful and dynamic personality system that describes nine distinct and fundamentally different patterns of thinking, feeling and acting. The word “ennea” is Greek for nine and “gram” means model or figure. Hence, the Enneagram is a diagram or star with nine points representing the nine personality patterns. Each of these nine patterns is based on an explicit set of perceptual filters that determine our worldview. Underneath each of the nine patterns is a basic proposition or belief about what you need in life for survival and satisfaction. As we discover our personality types, we can begin to understand what motivates us, our coping strategies and the keys to personal development. The workshop will help participants to identify their own patterns of thinking, feeling and acting, and look at the implications this has for growing in self awareness and dealing with other personality types.

This workshop will introduce participants to the Enneagram, enable them to discover their own personality type, and how they relate to other people, and to reflect on ways of exploring this further.

No previous knowledge of the Enneagram is required, the willingness to discuss and share is helpful, but there will be no pressure to do so.

Helen Costigane is a member of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, and teaches Pastoral Studies at Heythrop College.

ENNEAGRAM WORKSHOP

January 14-17, 2013,
Led by Fr Myes O'Reilly SJ

This introduction to the Enneagram will first help participants find their own personality type according to the Enneagram classification. (nb. This course is similar to that run last year at St Beuno's, but it does go further beyond the beginnings this year.)

Then we shall look at how a consideration of the Enneagram personality types can help self-awareness and an understanding of how others think and act.

Hopefully too we shall look at ways of acting which are helpful and positive for us and ways that are destructive.

During this lively workshop, led by Irish Jesuit, Myles O'Reilly, those attending will be joined by the participants from the Spring Programme on Apostolic Spirituality.

Bishop Lahey an Enneagram fan

……………………………..

According to The Arnprior News (11 July 1993), the Oblate-administered Galilee Community (Arnprior, Ontario) has a resident Enneagram virtuoso, FATHER CHRIS RUSHTON.

The Enneagram, according to expert Helen Palmer ( author of The Enneagram), is an ancient Sufi teaching which is intrinsic to Sufi mysticism and is “a model of the mystical premise that humanity is in the process of evolving toward higher forms of consciousness.” Father Rushton, however, claims little knowledge of the origins of the Enneagram. He simply notes that the Enneagram is a very popular program and everyone who takes the course says “it’s the greatest, thing since sliced bread.” Father reports that the Enneagram shows “how we can become fully human.” He also reports that last year BISHOP LAHEYand all the priests of St George’s Diocese, Newfoundland took the Enneagram workshop at Galillee.
