The Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church
Pope Paul VI by his motu proprio Ingravescentem aetatem, dated November 21, 1970, substantially modified the electoral power of the cardinals. The document stipulated that cardinals older than eighty years were deprived of their right to elect the pope and to participate in the conclave. When this provision went into effect on January 1, 1971, twenty-five cardinals lost their electoral rights. This regulation was later reaffirmed by his apostolic constitution Romano Pontifici eligendo of October 1, 1975 and by Pope John Paul II's apostolic constitution Universi Dominici Gregis of February 22, 1996.
As of January 26, 2013, there are 118 electors; 51 have been created by Pope John Paul II; and 67 by Pope Benedict XVI. In parentheses, following the name, is the year of cardinalitial creation and then, the date of birth.

This blog is to guide those seeking the Church's traditional liturgy, devotions, teachings, and cultural identity in the Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph areas and beyond. It does not bear any bishop's imprimatur, nor is associated with the Diocese of Hamilton, any parish, order, or lay association. Actually being Catholic isn't easy, but it's simple if you know how.
"It is...Our will that Catholics should abstain from certain appellations which have recently been brought into use to distinguish one group of Catholics from another. They are to be avoided not only as 'profane novelties of words,' out of harmony with both truth and justice, but also because they give rise to great trouble and confusion among Catholics. Such is the nature of Catholicism that it does not admit of more or less, but must be held as a whole or as a whole rejected: 'This is the Catholic faith, which unless a man believe faithfully and firmly; he cannot be saved' (Athanasian Creed). There is no need of adding any qualifying terms to the profession of Catholicism: it is quite enough for each one to proclaim 'Christian is my name and Catholic my surname,' only let him endeavour to be in reality what he calls himself." -- Pope Benedict XV, Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum 24 (1914)
